Series: Acts 29 Stories

We love sharing with you the journey of church planters from around Acts 29 Australia & New Zealand!

This month we’d like to introduce you to Sam & Beth Swadling who planted Gospel Church in Newcastle, NSW. I asked Sam a few questions about their church planting journey and how we can be praying for them and their church.

Tell us about Gospel Church.
Our vision for Gospel Church is that we would be a
gospel-centered community passionate about following Christ and excited to study God’s Word in order to apply it to our lives and culture. Our family – myself, Beth and our 3 kids moved to Newcastle to start Gospel Church. Our method has been called a ‘Parachute Church Plant,’ where you moved to a brand new area with a vision to start a church from scratch…and this is what we did. Our family along with one other couple (left image below) gathered in a local Pub for our first church service in February 2014.  We were very intentional with meeting people and sharing the gospel from the get-go and got to celebrate with our first of many people who came to faith in Jesus in April of that year. Since that time we have seen God at work through his people in our city and this past February, we celebrated our 4th anniversary as a church (right image below).

What drew your interest into Acts 29 initially & what made you want to become members?
We looked into Acts 29 out of a longing for a camaraderie with other pastors and wives who had the same key doctrinal beliefs as we did. In Acts 29, we discovered a deep and real brotherhood amongst the men, and an equally powerful sisterhood amongst the wives. As we began to meet people already in the network we were encouraged by their passion for Christ, commitment to planting churches and general character. We joined because it felt like this was a community with a passion for Christ and a commitment to his church that would continually encourage us in our journey as we seek to become a church plant that plants churches.

Where are you seeing God at work at Gospel Church?
We have recently planted Gospel Church Central Hunter (left image below) and Gospel Church Hamilton South (right image below), so we are now a family of three churches, one rural, one inner city, and one in a high-density housing commission area.

We are praising God for people coming to faith and the building of His church! We are currently establishing a ministry focus on caring and supporting families living in high-density housing commission areas. We would value prayer in how to best establish the ministry and also for people to join our team who have a heart to serve those in these areas. Please join us in praying, that as the name of Jesus is lifted up in our city, many more people will come to faith in Jesus as Lord.Let’s pray for Sam & Beth and Gospel Church as their family of churches lift up the name of Jesus in the Newcastle/Hunter region!

If you live in the area and want to get connected, please contact Gospel Church Website or Facebook.
