Acts 29 Australia & New Zealand continues to grow with churches planting churches around our part of the world!
This month we are featuring Acts 29 Australia & New Zealand members Nick & Jules who recently planted City On a Hill: Melbourne East. Nick shared with us their church planting journey and how we can be praying for their church and community.
“City On a Hill: Melbourne East exists to know Jesus and make Jesus known in the east and south-eastern suburbs of Melbourne. We are the fifth City on a Hill church planted and the latest in our continuing desire to be a church planting church. God, by His grace, called a strong core team of mission-minded men and women from City on a Hill: Melbourne, who along with others in the area, started gathering in June 2017. We met regularly to lift up Jesus, learn about God’s mission from the Bible, and pray big prayers, asking God to do something great through our efforts. After several months of gathering as a core team, we launched publicly in October 2017 at Phoenix Park Community Centre in Malvern East. God is continuing to gather more men and women who want to know Jesus and make Jesus known.
Church planting is God’s primary strategy for outworking His mission in the world. Acts 29’s singular commitment to planting churches that plant churches resonates with what we understand the priority of God to be in the pages of Scripture. Quite simply, it just made sense to be a part of a global and diverse network of churches all working toward the same end, for Jesus’ sake. God is doing a remarkable work amongst our church and we covet your prayers. God is drawing un-churched people into relationship with Him. God is gathering many de-churched believers and re-awakening them to the beauty of Jesus. God is maturing us to more fully know Him and represent Him in our schools, workplaces, networks and neighbourhoods. God is raising up men and women to exercise humble, courageous and sacrificial leadership.
One incredible story of God’s grace comes from our City Kids ministry. One of our kids wanted a Bible to take to her primary school to answer a friends question. Her friend received the Bible and enthusiastically accepted the invitation to come along to City Kids. She loved it, and bugged her parents to come along too. The commute was an issue, so they checked out a local church instead. By God’s grace, the whole family has now become Christians and are actively serving in their church.
We look forward to the continued growth of our church, in width and depth, and would love you to pray for us.”
Please join us in praying with City On a Hill: Melbourne East that they can be a faithful presence in their community, pointing people to God’s grace in Christ and courageously taking the initiative to spread the gospel. That those in our community who aren’t yet trusting in Jesus are led to commit their lives fully to Him and that more men, women and children would be drawn to Jesus.
