US CHURCH PLANT FUNDING INITIATIVE

Acts 29 desires to see new, gospel-centered churches in cities, suburbs, and rural communities around the world, and resources planters with training, coaching, and networking to this end. But, church planting also costs money, including the costs of renting a space, purchasing equipment and materials, ministry budgets, providing financial support for a church planter, and more.

Beginning in 2022, Acts 29 is funding US planters who have successfully completed the Acts 29 assessment process. We pray that removing some of the financial burden of church planting in the early years will help to plant more healthy, flourishing churches that are, “proclaiming the kingdom of God and teaching about the Lord Jesus Christ with all boldness and without hindrance” (Acts 28:31).

Stage-Based Funding for US Church Planters

Every new Acts 29 church plant assessed in the US through Acts 29’s Church Planter Assessment track will be eligible to receive up to $50,000 in two stages.

Stage One Funding: $25,000 will be granted upon the successful completion of an Acts 29 church-planting candidate’s conditions, and upon being recognized as an official Acts 29 church plant.

Stage Two Funding: $25,000 can be applied for upon an Acts 29 church plant having 100 people in attendance for a minimum of 6 consecutive weeks as well as meeting the other terms and conditions outlined below.

Each installment will be given in one-time, lump sums paid to the legally established church plant, not to an individual.

Eligibility Requirements

Stage One Eligibility

The following qualifications apply to eligibility for a church planter to receive Stage One funding:

  • Assessed through the Church Planter Track
  • Completed a US Assessment Conference anytime after January 1, 2021
  • Completed all conditions assigned by their assessment team
  • Approved as Acts 29 church planters in 2022 (and years following)

Funding is only available for new church plants; those assessed through the Existing Church Assessment track are not eligible for funding.

Planters receiving funding from other organizations—where there is a commitment to give back to the organization—are not eligible for these funds. This is in place to help the church plant avoid being overcommitted.

Stage Two Eligibility

Planters are only eligible to receive Stage Two Funding if it is applied for within 2 years of the date in which they received Stage One Funding and if they have faithfully fulfilled the other terms and conditions as outlined below.

  • Participate in an Acts 29 Area for a minimum of 12 months
  • Participate in an Acts 29 Cohort for a minimum of 12 months
  • An average of 100 attendees on Sunday mornings for six consecutive weeks
  • Faithful giving of 10% of their church’s offerings to the work of church planting—with 5% going to Acts 29’s Pay it Forward Fund (PFF)
  • Submission of a quarterly survey on the health, growth, and evidences of God’s grace on the church plant

Receive 12 months of coaching, either directed by their assessment team or arranged on their own.

Application Process

The application for funding will ask:

  • Planter Name
  • Church Plant Name and Location
  • Church Demographics
  • Public Launch Date
  • How Stage One Funding will help their church
  • A prospectus and financial statement of the church plant
  • Acceptance of the terms and conditions (outlined below)

Once Stage Two eligibility markers are met, planters are eligible to apply for the second and final installment of funding by directly contacting the Director of Assessment. Frequently Asked Questions

Who will receive this funding?

The following qualifications apply to eligibility for a church planter to receive the funding:

  • Assessed through the Church Planter Track
  • Completed a US Assessment Conference anytime after January 1, 2021
  • Completed all conditions assigned by their assessment team
  • Approved as Acts 29 church planters in 2022 (and years following)

What is the Pay it Forward Fund (PFF) and what is the requirement for giving to the PFF?

The PFF is used to fund church plants in our funding initiative. We ask that churches who receive Acts 29 funding joyfully “pay it forward” over time so that other church plants may receive the same benefit of funding that is so necessary and helpful in the early years of church planting.

All Acts 29 churches agree to give 10% of their overall church budget to church planting. Churches that receive Acts 29 funding agree that half of this amount (5%) goes to the PFF until their pay it forward amount matches their funding receipts ($25,000 or $50,000 depending on eligibility), plus another $25,000 to truly pay it forward.

When the PFF giving is complete for this plant, they can begin giving the standard 2% partner contribution instead of the 5% PFF contribution.

How does the 5% Pay it Forward Fund relate to other Acts 29 churches’ 2% partnership contributions?

The Pay it Forward Fund is strictly used to fund church plants in our funding initiative. During the time period in which Acts 29 funded church plants are completing their PFF commitment, they give directly to the PFF fund only.  After the PFF contribution is complete, the church transitions to the 2% partner contribution instead. The 2% giving of Acts 29 churches goes toward all other initiatives, events, training, and more in Acts 29.

What happens when a church closes and cannot meet their Pay it Forward (PFF) commitment?

In the event of a church plant’s closure, there is no legal, ethical, or relational responsibility to continue contributing to the PFF. No planter will be held personally liable for their church plant’s PFF contributions if the church plant closes.

Where does this funding come from?

Funding for Acts 29 church plants comes from contributions of Acts 29 churches in the US, from funds raised from donors, and from Pay it Forward contributions.

Must a church really reach 100 people for 6 weeks to qualify for Stage Two funding? Are there exceptions?

Yes, a church must have 100 attendees for 6 consecutive weeks to qualify for Stage Two funding. There are no exceptions. Stage Two funding is designed to help a church of 100 or more with the opportunities and challenges that come with this next stage of church growth. We do not moralize church size or believe that larger churches are more spiritually effective than smaller churches. However, Stage Two funding is designed to help new churches at the next stage of growth (Ex: A new staff hire, new facility rent, etc.).

Can a church plant receive Acts 29 funding and also be funded by another association or denomination?

No, a church plant may not receive Acts 29 funding if they also have or are receiving funding from another association or denomination with financial responsibilities attached. The reason for this policy is that a church plant that has multiple financial commitments will be overcommitted both in time and money, and we want to help ensure this does not happen.

Will churches outside of the US be supported through this initiative?

Our current funding initiative is only for churches located in the US, but there is potential for the addition of Canadian churches in the future.
