In November, Acts 29 celebrated the first church plant in Paraguay!

This launch reflects the commitment to bringing the gospel to places where gospel-centered churches are scarce—and where the hope of Christ is urgently needed.

Paraguay, like many Latin American countries, is culturally religious but often not rooted in biblical faith. Christian traditions are widely known and practiced, yet they are frequently blended with mysticism and superstitious beliefs passed down through generations. As one of the least evangelized countries in South America, Paraguay is ripe for church planting.

Church planter Angel Velazquez saw the need for more gospel-centered churches and sensed a clear calling to plant a church there. He moved his family from Brazil to Paraguay, and after spending several years learning the culture and laying a strong foundation, they officially launched Iglesia Cristiana Evangélica del Paraguay last Fall. While many church plants fail due to a lack of support, Angel has pressed into Acts 29 as a sounding board in his ministry.

“As I learned more about Acts 29’s vision and values, I became convinced of the importance of walking alongside other pastors for mutual growth, accountability, and shared learning in the work of church planting,” Angel shares.

Though the church is young, signs of transformation are already evident.

Heriberto, a husband and father in severe economic and emotional crisis, heard the gospel and placed his trust in Christ. Leidi, a biologist and university professor who once approached Christianity with skepticism, now professes Christ after Angel thoughtfully shared the gospel through conversations around faith and science.

“The church has become a place of refuge where people are learning about forgiveness in Christ and beginning genuine processes of reconciliation and restoration within their families,” Angel says. Even as the work is just beginning in Paraguay, he prays that this church will spark gospel-centered multiplication throughout the country. The first Acts 29 church in Paraguay is not just a milestone—it is a glimpse of the gospel impact still to come.
