Esteban Rojas’s recipe for sharing the gospel is simple: help every believer understand that they are an active agent in God’s mission.

Esteban planted Iglesia Gracia y Verdad in Heredia, Costa Rica, in 2021. At first, it wasn’t easy. The church was caught between highly charismatic and deeply traditional churches, and many people weren’t sure what to make of them. But with support from Acts 29 leaders who invested in Esteban and walked alongside the church in those early days, the church continued to love people well and preach the Bible faithfully. Over time, Iglesia Gracia y Verdad found its footing and now leaves a distinctly gospel-shaped imprint on Heredia.

Esteban shared the story of a widowed woman who came alone, carrying deep pain. The church prayed with her, and slowly her family began coming—first her kids, then her grandkids. Today, the entire family is part of the church, following Jesus and serving together.

Another family came in deeply wounded after experiencing abuse in a previous church. Week after week, as they sat under faithful preaching, something began to change. They realized they hadn’t truly understood the gospel before. Over time, they trusted in Christ, were baptized, and began to heal. Now, the husband is being equipped for church leadership.

Stories like these are happening regularly at Iglesia Gracia y Verdad. “One of the most beautiful things we see regularly is people who, while listening to the preaching of God’s Word or going through our membership and discipleship process, begin to realize that their confidence was in their works and not in Christ. Watching them become broken over their sin, repent, truly believe in Jesus, and then publicly confess their faith through baptism has been one of the greatest joys of our ministry.”

People are finding real hope, real freedom, and real life in Jesus—not only in coming to faith, but also in growing through deep, intentional discipleship.

Recently, the church launched a Bible institute for theological training, and 70 people signed up. Even more encouraging, 15 to 20 members are actively pursuing vocational ministry. By God’s grace, the church continues to grow, and its greatest challenge now is space, as more people gather each week.

As Esteban looks to the future, one of his greatest desires is to see a theological training center established in Costa Rica—one that serves not only the local church, but also pastors, leaders, and future church plants across the country.

We pray alongside Esteban that the gospel would continue to spread, saturating every region of Costa Rica through the planting of more churches.
