They say that ‘war is hell’ and that ‘ministry is war’ (Eph. 6:12), but we’ve got Jesus in the trenches. He is there as one who’s already gone before us to secure the victory, even though the battle still rages. He is there supplying strength for the mission and consolation for every fall. He is there for the long haul, promising never to leave or forsake us. And he is truly there for us—not just for those we serve—caring for us personally and intimately. Best of all: this Jesus in the trenches is the Lord of heaven and earth, so the gates of hell will not prevail against his people.
