At the final core team meeting before Launch Sunday, Cory Daker shared an urgent prayer request: his truck was failing. The heavy-duty truck was essential for towing the large trailer that carried Home Church’s equipment each week. Without it, their first service at the local school would look very different.

Just days later, the truck broke down completely.

But God provided. In no time, a replacement truck was found and fully funded through generous support.

For Cory, it felt like the beginning of a wild ride—and he wouldn’t have it any other way.

In September, Cory launched Home Church in Bonney Lake, Washington, with a core team of about 50 people. Five months later, 150 are gathering each week. Many are unbelievers or people who hadn’t been attending church, drawn in simply because the plant was “down the road.”

“There is something about the newness of a church body coming together that the Spirit is able to use to attract people,” Cory shared. “It’s amazing. I don’t know if people can fully grasp that until they are part of a church plant.”

The spiritual hunger in Bonney Lake is clear. This is evident in the number of new believers coming to Home Church, and they are praying that the Lord will bring even more!

Recently, they celebrated their very first baptism service. The school where they meet doesn’t allow baptisms indoors, so the congregation gathered outside instead. It was cold and rainy—February in Washington—but no one seemed to mind. They inflated a hot tub, set up a tent, and rejoiced in the new life God was creating in their community.

To Cory, that day captured the heart of church planting: messy, beautiful, and unmistakably the work of the Lord.
